The Myth of Poseidon and Amphitrite
According to Greek Mythology, Poseidon was the God of the Sea. He fell in love with a beautiful sea goddess and nymph, whose name was Amphitrite. Poseidon asked her to marry him, but she initially refused and hid somewhere far away. The God of the Sea did not give up and thought of a different approach for getting what he wanted. He asked his loyal friend Delphin, who was a dolphin shaped sea god, to go and talk her into marrying him and so the dolphin set out to her finding. With his smooth talk and his persuasive style, Amphitrite came around and accepted the marriage proposal of Poseidon.

In order for the couple to have a dreamy shelter, where they could be alone and enjoy their love and happiness, Poseidon came up with a solution. He took his trident and he struck the island of Corfu to its one side, creating in this way the enchanting island of Paxos and the smaller Antipaxos. This has been the retreat of Poseidon and Amphitrite ever since and this is the place where the two of them gave birth to Triton, Rhode and Benthesicyme.
